Financial Awareness Day

August 14th is National Financial Awareness Day — a great reminder to pause and check in on your financial well-being. Whether you're just getting started or fine-tuning a plan you've had in place for years, this day is a nudge to reflect on your goals, build healthy habits, and take a step toward greater financial confidence. Here are a few simple ways to recognize the day:

1. Give Your Finances a Check-Up

Take a few minutes to review where things stand.

  • Track your spending. Look back at your last month of transactions to see where your money is really going.
  • Review your statements. Watch for forgotten subscriptions or unusual charges.
  • List your debts. Note balances and interest rates so you know what to prioritize.

2. Set a Clear Goal

Financial awareness works best when it's tied to something specific.

  • Instead of "save more," try "save $1,000 for an emergency fund by December."
  • Think short-term (this year), mid-term (3–5 years), and long-term (retirement).

3. Build Your Emergency Fund

A cushion of savings can keep a surprise expense from turning into a financial setback.

  • Start small — even $25 a paycheck adds up.
  • Keep it in a separate savings account so it's there when you need it, not before.

4. Tackle High-Interest Debt

  • Pay down the highest-interest balances first to save the most over time.
  • Or start with your smallest balance for an early win and momentum.

5. Talk to a Banker

You don't have to figure it all out on your own. Our team is happy to sit down with you to talk through budgeting, saving, or planning for what's next.

Financial awareness isn't a once-a-year event, it's a habit worth building every day. This National Financial Awareness Day, we encourage you to take one small step toward your goals. And if you'd like some help along the way, stop by your local branch or give us a call.
